Symptom
When you run a workspace via the Data Download Service, you may get a link to a zip file which is empty and has nothing in it.
You may also see an error in the log files similar to this:
java.io.IOException: Zip: Dataset C:\ProgramData\Safe Software\FME Server\DefaultResults\[zip_file] does not exist.
Cause
There are three possible causes:
- In FME 2013 only, when you publish a workspace to FME Server for use with the Data Download Service - the publish wizard should automatically set the "Desired Output Writer" to your writer. An issue in FME Server 2013 sometimes prevents this from automatically happening and the "Desired Output Writer" is not set to any writer.
- If you have added or removed writers from your workspace you may accidentally create the situation where there is no writer set to the "Desired Output Writer"
- If you changed the definition of the Data Download Service host name or port, the definition may not have updated properly. For more information, see Service Properties Are Unavailable when Uploading Workspace to FME Server.
Resolution
This problem can be resolved by re-publishing the workspace:
- When publishing a workspace to FME Server stop at the last screen of the publish wizard where you can select the services for your workspace.
- Next to the Data Download service click the Edit button.
- Here you where you can select the Desired Output Writer. Make sure you set this parameter to the writer you want to use for your data download service.
Please note: If you are using the Data Streaming service you should also check this same setting associated with this service.
