Jimmy neutron free download

Remember Jimmy Neutron, the insufferable but lovelable nerd who gets into all those wacky adventures? Well it turns out he has a couple of games on his belt too and this is one of the first. Slap that jetpack on your back and make your head grow to an abnormal size as we teleport into Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius by Human Soft.

Gameplay

So this game was definitely being viewed under the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia because when I first played it, I don’t remember it looking this bad. Now don’t let that statement mislead you, this is a positive review. All in all, I’m still impressed with it. There’s a lot to it, a semi open world 3D adventure game, you follow James Isaac Neutron and his dog Goddard. Played from a third person perspective, the game is, as aforementioned, semi open world.

There are 5 regions linked by the main hub, once you decide where you want to go, you teleport there and complete several objectives. Your main job is to locate a number of items including keys, special prizes and a shrunken head. On some f the levels you can also locate some other characters from the show in Carl, Cindy and more.

There is suprsing diversity in the games controls and movement. You can run, jump and kick enemies in the face while using a veritable plethora of inventions to navigate the areas from jet packs to the high powered Goddard dog scooter, dog sled and dog pogo stick. There are also scenes where you can control Goddard via remote control and it was actually pretty fun.

Story

Do you like a pretty standard ‘game version of a show’ plot? Take your favourite show, make it a game and add a healthy sprinkle of aliens. The story revolves around Jimmy battling the evil King Goobot, who abducted Jimmy’s friends. A diverse cast of enemies exist to stop Jimmy’s progress with some interesting boss encounters. It’s pretty cookie cutter but serves its purpose overall.

The Design

It brings back memories of the Super Mario Sunshine, that being said, despite only coming out a year later, Mario Sunshine was an incredible improvement on the medium in general and in comparison, Neutron looks a little stale. The character models are recognisable, if a little stiff. The world itself leans far more to being a “quantity over quality” situation with large but poorly rendered maps.

The sound design of the game is omni-present, as it should be but there is such a thing as too much. When you can constantly hear Jimmy’s footsteps, even when the music cuts out at random points, it’s not a huge problem but once you notice it, it can cause annoyance pretty quickly.
