Suddenly (possibly since the last update, I hadn't tried for a while before that) Firefox doesn't allow me to download videos as such. Using the right-click and "Save Link As" option on an mp4 file, the only file type Firefox will allow me to save it as is a "Firefox HTML Document." Out of curiosity I finally let it do this, and the resulting file won't even open.
I used to be able to choose the file type to download as; how can I get this feature back? As is I can't download any video files.

Post a link to a video you can't download... could be that the site is not serving the right data.

Problem solved. User error. There was a second option, (save as all file types "."), which I dismissed because I didn't understand it, but that allowed me to manually designate a file type by typing the extension. Works like a charm. Now I feel silly.

You shouldn't have to specify a file name at all. Just point to the folder you want and there should already be a file name filled in from the server.

Wonder if that .html file was actually an .mp4, that would have played had it been named correctly.
Fire 750, bring back 250.
