Protect Yourself From Tech Support Scams
Tech support scams are an industry-wide issue where scammers trick you into paying for unnecessary technical support services. You can help protect yourself from scammers by verifying that the contact is a Microsoft Agent or Microsoft Employee and that the phone number is an official Microsoft global customer service number.
Hi James,
1. Is your computer connected to Server/domain network?
If you have configured Internet Explorer proxy server settings correctly, you can import settings from Internet Explorer into WinHTTP by using the following command.
a) Click Start type CMD
b) Right click on Command prompt and select Run as Administrator.
c) Type this command and press enter: Netsh winhttp import proxy source=ie
If issue persists, reset your proxy server settings, run the following command.
Netsh winhttp reset proxy
You can refer this Microsoft KB article and check if it helps:
How the Windows Update client determines which proxy server to use to connect to the Windows Update Web site

Hope this helps. If you need further assistance with Windows, let us know and will be glad to help.

Hi John,
These machines are on a domain network however they are not part of the domain. They sit behind a Firewall so they are in a walled garden, the firewall blocks everything except ports 8881 and 8080 plus a few internal resources. If you can provide a list of all IPs used by windows update then I can allow connections through the firewall.
Thanks
James
