Faded Splendor Tam Knitting Pattern Download
This classic tam features traditional Fair Isle motifs and muted tones inspired by faded Persian rugs. The body of the tam is knit as a straight tube, and the distinctive shape is created by blocking the finished piece.
Finished Size: 21½” (54.5 cm) head circumference at band; 10¼” (26 cm) diameter at widest point, after blocking.
Yarn: Fingering weight (Super Fine #1). Shown here: Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift (100% Shetland wool; 115 yd [105 m]/25 g); #274 green mist; #375 flax; #423 burnt ochre; #556 old rose; #581 peony; #598 mulberry; #677 stonewash; and #766 sage, 1 ball each.
Yarn Weight: #1 – Super Fine
Needles: Band: U.S. size 2 (2.75 mm): 16″ (40 cm) circular (cir). Body and wheel: U.S. size 3 (3.25 mm): 16″ (40 cm) cir and set of 5 double-pointed (dpn).
Notions: Markers (m); tapestry needle; 11″ (28 cm) diameter dinner plate or similar form for blocking.
Gauge: 29 sts and 34 rnds = 4″ (10 cm) in St st colorwork on larger needles, before blocking.
